Hygiene banks

Havant Borough Council's Community Hub hygiene bank project helps residents of the borough who are experiencing hygiene poverty, by providing hygiene banks at various locations where unused hygiene products can be donated and distributed to those in need.

My role in the project was to create a visual identity that fit within the wider Community Hub identity, which I had already previously designed, and apply this to the hygiene banks themselves, as well as to a range of promotional material to advertise the hygiene banks and encourage donations.

It was important to depict the hygiene bank project, as with all Community Hub related work, in a positive tone, both to encourage engagement from those will donate, as well as to not stigmatise or negatively affect the self esteem of those who receive donations.

When previously designing the Community Hub logo, I used a rounded, sans serif font for the text, to create a friendly and welcoming appearance. I then designed the "H" of "Hub" to resemble two people sharing and connecting, to emphasise the community aspect. To create the hygiene bank visuals, I designed a range of illustrations depicting items which could be donated, to create an eye-catching design that would draw the viewer in and make them more likely to engage with the scheme. The colour palette was chosen to visually associate the scheme with Havant Borough Council through the brand's dark green brand colour, to reflect the benefits to the environment of donating unwanted items, and to give a positive tone to this campaign based around helping others.
