Ode to gold

Ode to Gold was created for my university Major Project, which involved in depth research and experimentation on a topic of my choosing, with a graphic design output created in response.

I chose to create a response as a dedication to fancy goldfish, exploring their history, symbolism, development, and cultural significance in their countries of origin of China and Japan.

The project takes the form of a hand-made, illustrated book, and accompanying goldfish lantern bookmarks inspired by traditional Japanese folk crafts, which light the reader’s way as they journey into the fascinating history of fancy goldfish.

I was honoured to win the South West Design + Digital Student Award in the Graphic Design category for this work, and for it to be featured on the front cover of the Goldfish Society of Great Britain's quarterly publication.
